The Mystery of "Missing Time" You're driving, you look at your watch... and it's 9:10 PM. A moment later, you look up again: it's 10:30 PM. But you remember nothing of what happened in between. Not a detail. Not an image. Nothing. This phenomenon is known as "missing time," and has been reported in several documented contexts. It's not just a matter of distractions. In some cases, people find themselves in different places than they thought they were, with no memory of the journey. One of the most studied cases is that of Betty and Barney Hill. During a trip in 1961, the couple realized they had arrived at their destination about two hours later than expected, with no memory of that time. Years later, under hypnosis, they attempted to reconstruct those events, giving rise to one of the most discussed cases of the century. Beyond the most controversial interpretations, the phenomenon has also been analyzed in the clinical field. Psychology speaks of dissociative states and temporary amnesia, conditions in which the brain temporarily "disconnects" memory from consciousness. In these states, a person can continue to act normally... without registering what is happening. Some studies link these episodes to stress, trauma, or mental fatigue, yet what strikes those who experience them is always the same detail: it's not the feeling of having forgotten something, but that that time... never existed.
